Sustainable Water Purification System
Built By: VT SAME Chapter
Purpose:
To develop a sustainable water purification system that will help develop a community without straining their resources in all forms.
Vision:
To see this device eventually be used in other regions and raising the credibility of the VT SAME Chapter
Beneficiaries:
Help anyone in the world who needs a sustainable water purifier.
Design Specifications:
- Take out all known chemicals in the water
- Uses a water distillation method
- Able to be maintained easily by any local
- Operation must be foolproof to avoid creating unclean water from accidental misuse
- Able to be replicated by locals
- System blends in with the surrounding area
- Uses locally found materials
- To be used on rooftops/ground
- Weight limit is: 45Ibs
- Maximum size is: 6’x6’ per device (we could make an array if needed)
- Maximum cost is: $100 (Their locally made materials will be cheaper or free, our prototyping will be more expensive)
- Should not use any electrical components
- Have movable joints to allow for varying roof slants
Plan of attack:
Step 1: Figure out all design specifications
Step 2: Brainstorm possible water distillation designs
Step 3: Create draft drawings of the top three water distillation designs
Step 4: Create CADs of the top design
Step 5: Start buying materials
Step 6: Assemble prototype
Step 7: Test prototype (get help from VT faculty in doing proper water tests)
Step 8: Make improvements
Step 9: Test final design
Step 10: Ship to beneficiary
